Scouts - 10½ to 14 years

Jump in and get muddy. Give back and get set. Scouts ignore the butterflies and go for it, and soon so will you.

Scouts is for young people - boys and girls - who are aged between 10½ and 14. At Scouts, you'll jump in, learn new skills and take on new challenges.

We meet either on Friday evenings or on Saturday afternoons during term time. To sign-up for Scouts fill in the form here or email 5thGuildfordScouts@gmail.com. 5th Guildford Scouts has been part of the Onslow Village community since 1957, and is run entirely by local volunteers.

Frequently Asked Questions
 
Do I have to have been in Scouts before? 
No, around half of current Scouts are completely new to it, others join from Cubs or Brownies.
 
Do you currently have spaces? 
Scouting is very popular, but places do become available from time to time. Fill in the contact form to find out about current availability. 
 
Where do Scouts come from? 
At 5th Guildford we have Scouts from across Guildford, although most are from Onslow Village and the surrounding areas.
 
Where does Scouts meet? 
For Friday meetings we usually meet at our building on Onslow Village Recreation Ground. On Saturdays we meet in the afternoons (typically from 2pm onwards, to suit those with activities in the mornings) at various outdoor locations such as Bentley Copse Scout Activity Centre in the Surrey Hills, and other local Scout Campsites. From Easter through to September we try to have every meeting outdoors. 
 
Can you join at any age?
Young people can join Scouts at any age. Once they reach the age of 14 they can take part in Explorers or become a Young Leader, taking on more leadership responsibilities.

We meet in Onslow Village on Friday during term time as well as outdoors in other local locations at weekends. Typically we meet 2 or 3 times a month.

News & Blogs

Four teams of Scouts went to London to join nearly 8,000 other Scouts from around the country with the 2024 Monopoly Run. The day started off wet but the weather improved and Scouts followed the route around the Monopoly Board, with a few additions such as Hamleys(!).

In late February Scouts enjoyed an activity weekend at Bentley Copse for the 2024 Frost Camp. Nearly 30 activities were available includling climbing, zip wire, archery, crate stackign and more. The silent disco on Saturday night was a favorite.

It lived up to the name with temperatures briefly dropping below zero, meaning Scouts got their sub-zero badge.

Nearly 20 Scouts from 5th Guildford took part in helping out with maintenance at Bentley Copse Scout Campsite - including helping put down a new floor in the marquee and keeping the site tidy. They also found time for some fun activities including crate stacking and around half camped overnight.

5th Guildford Scouts joined other Guildford groups for a camp at Boidier Hurst, near Box Hill. The focus was on the Naturalist and Forester badges.
