We’re starting a new provision for four and five year olds called Squirrels, to help young people gain skills for life at a time when it matters most and where it's most needed.
We are aiming to start a Squirrel section in September 2025, this will be the first in the area. If you have a child who will be 4 or 5 years old in September 2025 you can sign-up below.
What is Squirrels?
Squirrels is the youngest section of Scouts, the UKs largest youth organisation. Launched nationally in 2021 Squirrels are one-hour sessions that are a brilliant opportunity for young people to take their first step into being part of Scouts, and they’ll help everyone get ready for the adventure of school too.
Who is running it? A local primary school teacher, with previous experience as a Scout volunteer, has agreed to be the main leader/organiser. But to get off the ground we need help from parents. Like all Scout groups, 5th Guildford is a charity run by entirely volunteers from the local area - many of whom are parents. Because of the high ratios of adults to children required for this age group we would ask parents to volunteer twice a term. We can also do with help around some of the admin tasks, such as helping organise badges and helping with the budget.
When will it be?
Squirrels will run once a week from 4:30 to 5:30 during term time at the Scout HQ on Onslow Village Recreation ground. The day is still to be confirmed but is likely to be Monday, Tuesday or Thursday.
We are looking forward to getting Squirrels started and have lots of exciting activities in mind for this age group.
